What is the Los Angeles Christian School?
The Los Angeles Christian School (LACS) is a mission school founded in 1982 by World Impact, Inc. LACS has about 110 students on two campuses: an elementary school (K-5th grade) and a middle school (6th-8th grade). One class is offered at each grade level. The class sizes are limited to 16 students per class.
Our teachers are missionaries who have been called by God to serve in the inner city and are required to raise their financial support prior to joining our staff. Most of our teachers have teaching certificates or credentials.
What is the purpose of the school?
Our mission statement declares: We are a mission school dedicated to facilitating the discipleship and church-planting goals of World Impact-Los Angeles in its ministry to inner-city residents. We support urban families by equipping students for a life of discipleship through helping them develop academic competence, Christian character and self confidence.
Who attends the school?
Because our purpose is to support the ministry of World Impact-LA and other urban churches, first priority for admission is given to children who attend a World Impact Bible club, whose families are involved with a World Impact church or whose families attend other urban churches affiliated with World Impact. Our student body is comprised of children from low socio-economic backgrounds with approximately 60% Latino, 35% African-American and 5% Anglo.
What is the curriculum?
Our curriculum stresses the academic and spiritual development of the student. The academic curriculum meets all California State requirements. Language arts, math, social studies, science, health and physical education are taught at each grade level. Extra programs include music, art, computers and technology education. We stress an integrated curriculum with an emphasis on literacy development and critical-thinking skills.
The Bible is taught at all grade levels and biblical truth is integrated into the curriculum when appropriate. All students memorize Bible verses and recite them at our weekly chapels. Classes begin each day with prayer and devotions. Christian values are taught, emphasized and modeled by all of the school staff. Middle school students may participate in discipleship programs.
