Understanding Catholicism with Dr. Tony Pezzotta
On Saturday, October 3, 2009, World Impact-Los Angeles and CB Southern California will co-sponsor a one-day seminar on understanding Roman Catholicism. Former Roman Catholic priest and current CB Ethnic Ministries Director Dr. Tony Pezzotta will lead this seminar.

Dr. Pezzotta studied fifteen years in Roman Catholic seminaries of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Italy, England, Spain and Germany. He was ordained a Catholic priest on February 11, 1961, in Turin by His Eminence Cardinal Maurilio Fossati, then Archbishop of the diocese.

On February 26, 1974, after studying the Scriptures on his own, and through the testimony of Rev. Ernesto Montealegre, a Filipino pastor, Dr. Pezzotta trusted Christ alone as Savior and Lord of his life.

The seminar will be from 9:00am - 1:00pm at World Impact in Los Angeles (Interstate 10 and Vermont Ave). The cost is only $10 including lunch and materials.

Spanish translation will be provided.

Sign up on CB Southern California's web-site at www.cbasc.com/new_page_9.html.

Mentors Needed for TUMI-LA

The Urban Ministry Institute of Los Angeles (TUMI-LA) has started a TUMI satellite at The OAKS, World Impact's camp and conference center in the Palmdale, CA area.  The OAKS staff member, Dan Smith, is the satellite's mentor.  Nine students are enrolled.

Fernando Argumedo, TUMI-LA Director, shares that finding mentors to help facilitate classes is a high priority for this academic year.  Especially pray that TUMI-LA can find Spanish-speaking church leaders who have ministry experience, a heart and passion to build relationships through teaching, and Bible training to serve as facilitators.

If you are interested or know of a person desiring to serve others through theological education, please contact Mr. Argumedo at fargumedo@worldimpact.org.

Dear Friend,

Psalm 107:35-37
"He changes a wilderness into a pool of water
And a dry land into springs of water;
And there He makes the hungry to dwell,
So that they may establish an inhabited city,
And sow fields, and plant vineyards,
And gather a fruitful harvest. " (NASB).

Dear Lord, we desire that we may play an integral part reaping a fruitful harvest for you in our city.

Uncharted Waters Sports Camp at LACS

In August, Los Angeles Christian School (LACS) hosted a week-long sports camp with Uncharted Waters, a sports outreach ministry. Praise the Lord with us for the 40 children from our neighborhoods who were impacted.
Sports
The camp offered a healthy blend of sports training in soccer, basketball and cheerleading, and time spent in the Bible sharing the Good News of Jesus.

Judson Bouchard, LACS Physical Education teacher, shares that the primary purpose of such camps is to impact our community spiritually.  We thank Uncharted Waters for partnering with us in reaching young people for Christ.
Teen Center Renovation Progresses
TCSmall
Renovation of a 9,000-square-foot building into a Teen Center is progressing on schedule. The Teen Center will minister to inner-city neighbors and more than 2,500 students from West Adams Preparatory High School located across the street.

We will offer students academic tutoring, mentoring, college SAT prep classes, vocational planning, leadership development, and spiritual discipleship.

Renovation started on July 5, 2009. We still need your help! We still need $200,000 to complete this project by December 31, 2009.  We are praying that you and your congregation will get involved. Perhaps you would:

1.  Take a Thanksgiving offering. We will provide you with promotional material explaining the project and a one- or two-minute video that explains this ministry.

2.  Donate stage lighting and light trusses. If you have surplus lighting at your church, or are planning a sanctuary remodel, please consider donated your lighting to the Teen Center.

3.  Make a special gift. We need $33 per square foot to complete the Teen Center.

4.  Share "named-giving" opportunities for the center's rooms with others.

God bless you for your vital partnership in this needy mission field -- downtown Los Angeles!

For further information please contact Tim Goddu at tgoddu@worldimpact.org.
Thank you for partnering with World Impact-Los Angeles in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ!
