TUMI-LA Summer Classes Begin
|
|
Please pray for the more than 60 students in three TUMI-LA locations who are studying for ministry, and the mentors who are teaching the five classes being offered. Three classes are held at the TUMI-LA center on Fridays giving it a true seminary campus feeling. Two classes are taught in Spanish.
Continue to pray with us for additional Spanish-speaking mentors.

Dear Friend,
"Sing to the LORD, all the earth;
Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.
Tell of His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples."
1 Chronicles 16:23-25 (NASB)

The World Impact Basketball League
|
|
Bryan Cullison, a World Impact-Los Angeles missionary, has a love for basketball. So, in May 2009, Bryan started a basketball league with a threefold vision: to utilize the gym for community fellowship, exercise and fun, and to invest spiritually in the lives of community men and their families. All three are now happening.
This past season featured eight teams with 66 players -- five World Impact missionaries and 61 men from the community. An All-Star element was added to the playoffs with a three-point contest, dunk contest, and an all-star game. After the all-star game, players and their families were invited to a barbecue. About 25 people attended. The league has a website at http://wibasketball.teamopolis.com where players can go to look up their schedules, statistics, team rosters, news updates, standings, league leaders, game recaps and participate in discussion forums.
Please pray that this ministry continues to reach men for Christ, disciple them and incorporate them into a church.

2010 Men's Retreat Update
|
|
World Impact-Los Angeles' vision is to facilitate a church-planting movement among the urban poor. To accomplish this vision we need strong, committed men who are passionate about Jesus to lead His Church in the city.
Each year we host we host the Men's Retreat at The OAKS. This June, 244 urban men shared a weekend of fellowship, good food, worship and dynamic teaching. There is something strategic, wild and energizing about gathering men together from the inner city. It seemed there were more tattoos, knife wounds, gun shot scars in one place other than behind prison walls!
Eight men made first time commitments to submit to the lordship of Jesus and approximately 80 men came forward to recommit their lives to following Him. Four West Coast World Impact cities were represented -- Oakland, Fresno, San Diego and Los Angeles -- and 11 churches from our Los Angeles Urban Pastors Association.
One of the 12 men who were baptized had a knife wound from the top of his chest to the bottom of his stomach. He gave his life to Christ this past year and is a member of a World Impact church plant in Los Angeles. About five months ago, as a newborn Christian, he desired to ask a co-worker forgiveness for a wrong and to share Christ him. This co-worker instead ambushed him stabbing him multiple times.
God was glorified. These are the men who will be leading the Church in the city. Please continue to pray for God's mighty stirring among souls; for wisdom and strength for us as we continue to plant as many churches as we can as quickly as possible. The Spirit continues to be faithful in expanding and advancing His Kingdom in the city by calling men to gather so He can work within them and through them.
